OXYBENZONE and OCTINOXATE are included in most sunscreens. Each year 14,000 tons of these
substances flow into the sea and reach the coral reefs, inducing coral bleaching and
thus the destruction of coral reefs. OXYBENZONE and OCTINOXATE have such a strong destructive
power that even a single drop added to 16,000 tons of water can lead to the death of coral.

85% of the oxygen we consume comes from the sea.
Known as the tropical forest of the sea, coral absorbs carbon dioxide in the air and produces oxygen, all of which helps cool down the earth.

  • 02

Coral also absorbs 97% of wave energy, which makes it the barrier that prevents large waves, storms and tsunamis from striking the land.

  • 03

Coral only occupies 0.1% of the marine environment.
However, 25% of all sea creatures live around the coral reefs.

A change for coral reefs and the sea is currently in progress.
Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, and other countries have banned the tourist access in certain areas to protect their coral
reefs, and the state of Hawaii have enacted the laws to prohibit the sales and distribution of sunscreens containing oxybenzone and octinoxate.
innisfree Sun Care developed a unique icon for Coral Reef-Safe Sunscreen in 2020 and was also upgraded to be an environmentally-friendly sun solution that can protect both the marine ecosystem and the skin.
